Odabashian was commissioned by Auberge Resorts to develop four bespoke rugs for the Chileno Bay Resort, a contemporary sanctuary nestled on one of Los Cabo’s only swimmable beaches.

Each of the rugs was developed to compliment the effortless Baja aesthetic that is found throughout the resort.

Three of the designes were made in collaboration with Miami-based artist Johanna Boccardo, with whom we have worked on several designs over the years.

For the other design we worked with BAMO Inc. San Francisco who were responsible for the overall interior design of the resort.

Designer: Johanna Boccardo
Materials: Pure semi worsted New Zealand Wool
Technique: Classic Tibetan hand knot in loop and cut piles.
Approx size: 220 x 400cm

This design was inspired by nautical flags and a collage that I created by mixing the same simple geometric elements in a random order. Although the final design seems geometric at first glance, only a few sequences are repeated in the final design. The rug has hand embossed, color edges.

This pattern for the beige and blue rugs that furnish the suites was created from an ink drawing created by keeping the pen moving along the page without allowing the nib to separate from the surface. The rug has hand embossed, color edges.
